Interview with (DCPA) Danny Hughes

Interview, Music

Most proud achievement as an artist:

I’m proudest that I was able to work my way into the industry when I did, and to associate with very talented collaborators. I became a full time DJ and music producer in my late 20’s, now early 30’s. It’s common for most musicians to second their music career to a full-time job, which is what I had done. While I achieved great things in my prior accounting career, it was a heavy weight to carry – knowing that my present was not indicative of my future. I knew that I needed to take risks and rethink my life to make it work as a musician. Hopefully my story can be an inspiration to others who are living a dual life and wish to dedicate their time fully to music someday.

Favorite Artist inspiration:

ATB is my biggest inspiration. This stems from early on in high school, listening to European dance music back in the early 2000’s. He was my first DJ hero. From melodic orchestral tracks to floor filler electro house, progressive, and trance, ATB is a transcendent music artist, which is what I also aim to be.

Favorite song right NOW:

‘Space Dog’ by Laika Beats – This track is making me want to get into some chill dubstep production!

Also, look for my latest DCPA track – ‘Iconic Love’ on all major platforms as of Friday March 4th!

What are you putting first above all else in your career?

Currently, spending as much time producing music as possible. There is a balance between a producer, DJ, and home life, and by focusing on production work I’ve been able to spend substantial time back home with the family. I’m able to operate in many different settings because of modern technology, and changing my environment routinely helps me be creatively dynamic. I spent much of my time performing live shows in Austin TX in 2021 and have felt the need to translate this experience back into the studio.

Anything exciting happening personally for you?

I’d say just having the flexibility to spend time on the road travelling between cities in Texas has been exciting. Other than that, I’m getting a lot of personal enjoyment learning new production and marketing tools, and setting up my studio for livestreaming and YouTube performances.

What about professionally?

Lately, I’ve been on several podcasts and working on my YouTube presence. It’s becoming more of a routine thing for me, and has been a career goal of mine. Also, getting involved in blockchain based apps for musicians and seeing the potential for how they will impact my career is increasingly exciting.

What is the ultimate goal?

I keep a constant list of project ideas. I also want my music production to eventually expand into licensing outlets such as movies, video games, etc. The long-term goal would be to feel that I’ve done everything on my music bucket list and had a positive impacted on as many people that I can.

The ultimate dream for you?

I dream of building a music ecosystem that people can learn from and expand on in their own ways. I would enjoy watching my music achievements impact new generations, and even become able to contribute to their financial success in music. I want the freedom to live and work anywhere in the world.
