Come summer, there is one wardrobe staple that comes back year after year: shorts. Rarely does a week go by without me combing through the new-in pages of my favourite brands, on the hunt for the latest colourways and elevated fabrications of this timeless silhouette, and I believe that in summer, shorts are for everyone. Or more specificially, everyone but me.
Prefer a tapered, more tailored shape? The style instantly becomes cooler and far more fashion-forward. A light, airy cotton? Casual, sophistication is easily achieved. The upside to the breadth of my researched means that my standards are awfully high when it comes to shorts, and nothing has met my criteria. But, this week I stumbled across a trend that encompasses not one but two of my favourite looks. Satin, and longline Bermudas.
With the weather in flux, I’ve been looking for a way to wear shorts which feels UK summer-approved. When any given day can quickly turn from a hazardous downpour to a balmy, bright sky, leaving the house in the correct attire is imperative. Having left the house in Harry Styles-approved satin shorts, gusts of wind have left me wishing for more coverage, but of course, when temperatures rise, my wool blend Bermudas have been left dripping in sweat. And this is where the magic of the satin Bermuda short trend comes into play.
The longer cut offers a welcome layer of coverage, whilst the silky satin fabrication feels light enough to wear when temperatures begin to climb. Better yet, the style taps neatly into fashions on-going obsession with Y2K-inspired dressing. So, when you think about it, this once “dated” shape being popular again makes a lot of sense. However, unlike the futuristic prints and eclectic colour clashes that defined the era, many of the satin Bermuda shorts popular today have been sporting a refined, 2026-feeling twist.
From sultry lace trims seen at Reformation, to knee-grazing boxer shorts at The Frankie Shop, every iteration has a quiet refinement which will pair well with flip-flops, sandals and trainers this summer. So, if you’re in the mood to make the switch, scroll down to shop the 11 best satin Bermudas shorts on the market right now, perfect for summer 2026 and beyond.
