Exclusive Interview with Greg Hoy

Culture, Music

Have you performed your latest song Live yet?

Kinda yes and no? I did ‘Move Along’ on the awesome Mike Wagner Show which felt like a debut but it was recorded for a future broadcast. Hm. I did sort of perform it when we shot the video for it (https://youtu.be/S2eBaKeZR7I). It’s a technicality! I’d say I definitely have not performed it live in front of an audience (which we will for sure at the Welcome Back America Festival we’re playing July 4th in Pacifica, CA!).

What is the best part of performing Live?

The 22 year old me would smack older-than-22 me for saying this — it’s the energy of the collective. It’s all the people in the club sharing the feeling of creation in a moment as a band performs a song live. This is mindfulness. And mindfulness + live music = cures whatever ails you.

Where can our followers stream your music?

Bandcamp treats artists really, really well (https://greghoy.bandcamp.com/) but I also love Spotify for their better -than-most streaming sound quality and clean design.

Who are you following closely when it comes to their music?

There’s so much great music out there: Brittany Howard is incredible, and I can’t wait to hear what comes next. I love JJ Wilde’s new EP. Anything Beck puts out gets my attention. My friend Astrum’s band One World (R)evolution has an epic album coming out. My east coast artist friends Vanessa Silberman, Carissa Johnson, Anna Copa Cabanna. The rock band De Staat has incredible videos!

What’s the creative direction that’s happening in 2021?

The world is beginning to bloom again. We are gonna see a lot of collaborations, live music, bright colors, stars, blue sky… all the things we forgot about being stuck indoors for a year. Tempos are gonna be all over the place: people will want to dance, and people will want to slow down and connect. It’s gonna be wild!

How creative are you feeling lately?

There’s a lot of new music bubbling up. There’s a real feeling of hope as the world thaws. Having said that, some days are more inspired than others. My worry meter still wavers. We’re all dealing with PTSD to various degrees.

No matter what is happening in your career what or who gets you to slow down and enjoy your success so far?

My 9 month old daughter keeps me motivated and grounded. And so far she really loves rock music!
