United Airlines’ CEO Scott Kirby first became aware of climate change when he was a cadet in the Air Force Academy.
“And I can remember reading in the ‘80s, the forecasts were there’s going to be less snow on the Western Slope and the Colorado River’s going to go dry,” he said on stage at the Denver Performing Arts Complex during a fireside chat with Colorado Matters’ Ryan Warner.
The Western Slope and its three neighboring Utah counties are among the largest climate hotspots on the Colorado River, warming more than 2 degrees Celsius, while its flow has also slowed amid warming-driven evaporation, less rainfall, and a reduced build up of snow.
