Exclusive Interview with Joey Stuckey

Film, Music

Hi Joey! It is great to speak with you today!

Thanks so much!

Tell me about your recent documentary ‘Don’t Blink’!

This is a very cool project I am really excited about! Filmmaker Courtney Adkisson wanted to do a mini documentary on my life in music as her master’s film project for SCAD!

This film chronicles some of the health-related struggles I fight every day and how I still live a life of intention and do what I love, music!

It is 15 minutes long, so really is a very brief look into the “Stuckeyverse”, but I think she did an amazing job and provides a compelling story.

What was the most fun part of creating this documentary?

Well, we filmed it during COVID and at a time when I had really locked myself away from seeing other people as I am a brain tumor survivor and have to guard my health very carefully. It was just so great to see my friends and band mates all together again to tell this story!

I also have to say I love working with Courtney and her PD Nora—just wonderful people!

Do you have something you learned from the process that you would offer as advice to someone who is looking to create a documentary of their own?

Yeah, trust the person that is doing the visual story telling or don’t do it! You don’t want to try and micromanage the story. I made the decision right away that I would have very little to do with choosing the direction of the documentary. I wanted to have Courtney tell the story from her unique perspective!

How has the reception been for the documentary so far?

It has been wonderful! We have several thousand views from across my social channels and are submitting the film to a number of film festivals! I am mainly working on YouTube views right now. I think right now about 100 folks have watched it on YouTube Over FB I have about 1200 views.

Any other projects you have been working on that you want us to know about?

I am working hard to get my new album “One Song At A Time” ready for release in mid-August or early September of this year!
