Exclusive Interview With Doug Kistner

How would you classify your music?

It’s in the yacht rock world w some of the chord progressions i tend to go for and it definitely has a classic rock vibe

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

There are many but ill say Michael Mcdonald, James Pankow, Steely Dan, Elton, Bill Champlin

What do you want fans to take from your music?

Some people have said they loved it and listened to it 4 or 5 times. Whatever you call that, that’s what i want. Just for people to sing it and enjoy whatever parts connect with them. Hopefully they relate to the message lyrically too.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

There is no scene here.

When did you know you were destined for music?

Pretty early on. I was in a ‘band’ with friends playing for the school by 6th grade. I was not good, but music was what i wanted to do.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Certainly, a Chicago concert, many great ones over my lifetime even going back to Terry Kath. The excitement of the band cookin’ and having people into it, is the thing.

What do you want to say about your new song, Silence ais Louder?

Its an exciting track. The band kicks, vocals are strong. Jon Herington s gtr solo is great. Silence is Louder might be a strange title but i think people get the message from the first line of the song.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

Just little things as a songwriter, lyricist and production ideas. Hard to say exactly what that is but the songs are sounding really strong imo.

 What’s next for you?

Working on another song w some special people. Also, we are rehearsing to play live. I hope that will be a reality. I’m sure were going to sound really good and go over w the audience.
