Exclusive Interview with Modern Amusement
Culture, Music

How are you feeling about this year’s music you’ve put out so far?

I feel like now that I’ve finally had enough time removed from the making of all the songs I’ve released this year I can actually listen to them as just a listener now, and not as critical of a mindset, and I am very proud of all of it. Modern Amusement has released an album and a standalone single this year and we’re still not quite done yet! I am very proud of all the work we’ve done and released this year, so far it is the most productive year I’ve ever had creatively and I would like to keep it going next year!

The year is coming to an end! What are you doing in these last few months musically?

Luckily we’re not slowing down! We have at least one more song to release by the end of the year as we move into releasing material from our next album, which is due out next year!

What are you working on right now in the studio?

We’re working on the finishing touches for our next album! I couldn’t be more excited for people to hear these new songs!

What are your studio sessions looking like these days?

Well, if you can call it a studio! It’s all done at home, for now working at home has been the most cost-effective strategy, as well as a good way for me to spend as much time as I need getting down parts to where I’m satisfied.

Is it just you when you go to record or do you work with others?

I always work with others, I think it’s very important to get other people’s perspectives on the recording process to get the best result. On this most recent album I worked with the great producer extraordinaire Vaness Silberman, the immaculately talented Jake Schneider and the guitar god(and good friend of mine) Sam Kurschner. They all helped bring some extra colors into our sonic palette.

Who is the person that you want to work with next whether it’s putting them on a track or just producing?

Many people who know me know that my biggest dream would be to have Rivers Cuomo from Weezer featured on a track of mine. He is my biggest inspiration as a musician and it would be a dream come true to be able to work with him! If you’re somehow out there reading this Rivers, hit me up!

How are you customizing your sound in your next tracks?

I think with the first album we focused more on upbeat sounding melodies and progressions, so this time we’re going with more aggressive and heavier sounds. More feedback, heavier guitars, and harsher vocals. It still has the Modern Amusement sound you’ve hopefully come to love, but just a little heavier. We hope you’ll like the change!

How do you make sure that you’re customizing your overall vision for your music?

I like to make my lyrics sound like something only I would write but also feels relatable. So they can be personal or just have my brand of humor on them. That way I can create my own style and brand for my music and I can feel like I’ve made something that is completely my own. Hopefully like-minded people who have been through similar experiences can resonate with it too, that would be amazing.

What is your overall vision for yourself!?

I guess I would say I’d like to be an artist that writes songs that can stick in people’s heads and also connect with them on some emotional level. To me that’s the best you can do as a musician and I hope I can achieve that as an artist.

How are you leading with love with your music?

I’d like to think the community we’ve built around Modern Amusement with us and our listeners is one of positivity and acceptance. All types of people are welcome in our space as long as you are also respectful of all types of people too!
