“We Demand Change” is the newest single by India born Singer/Songwriter, Rohan Solomon. Solomon immigrated to the United States in 2015, and settled into NYC. Since then, he has returned to India, and expanded his catalog of work, as well as amassing an impressive resume as an audio engineer. Rohan also works as a music teacher, which perfectly suits the all round altruistic nature of his own music. Recently, his focus has been on bringing attention to the growing call for equality, and the end of racism.

Rohan Solomon has actively gone on record, and stated that “We Demand Change” is his response to recent events. Subjects such as the George Floyd incident and the disturbing trend of violence, directed at Asian Americans, have drawn a passionate reaction from Solomon. As a native of India, Solomon has almost certainly had first hand experiences with gross examples of inequality, prejudice, and abuses of power/corruption. Thanks to his growing notoriety, he is determined to use his platform, to be an advocate for peace. His exceptional talent for doing so, is abundantly apparent on “We Demand Change.”
After a brief synth interlude, the song that was inspired by a call for peace, ironically starts off with a cadence of a rifle. We hear the clicking of a gun, and then a relenting beat of shots, followed by and syncopated with the drums. It’s a striking way to open the song, and it’s sure to grab your attention. The guitars are tuned to sound almost harp like, as we hear the strange contrast of beautiful and angelic musings, with a backdrop of gunfire. It is stark and has a somewhat immobilizing effect on you, as you listen.
Those recording artists who are educated in audio engineering, always have an edge in the process, and Solomon is no different. Aside from his solid vocal work, Rohan’s production is the most outstanding aspect of “We Demand Change.” The layering and the compositional dexterity immediately establish Solomon as a cut above, and it makes for a flattering first impression. “We Demand Change,” has that indeterminate quality, in that it feels different than most of what you are used to hearing. As a result, the song leaves a lasting impression.
For “We Demand Change,” Rohan Solomon has given us something completely unique. While some might find the gunshot effects to be polarizing at best, you can assume that it’s a statement of sorts. Perhaps, Solomon is reminding us of how violence has become somewhat mundane. Hearing the endless ringing of shots, thus becomes an exercise in stamina, as Solomon’s dares you to look away and ignore something that it’s no longer possible to. Rohan Solomon has made his demands, and in this case, we can pragmatically deduce that his odds of getting them, are astronomically high. It will however be our collective objective, to retain them.
