Come Work With Us

Literary Hub is hiring a Senior Editor to help develop and manage a new site launching in Spring 2027. The vertical will cover the full range of books published each year, fiction and nonfiction, in every category from children’s books to romance to personal finance. It will bring together opinions from critics, authors, booksellers, librarians, and readers.

This is a rare chance to help shape a publication from the ground up. You’ll join before launch and work closely with Lit Hub senior staff to develop its editorial voice, standards, and workflows. The role is fast-paced and critical to a successful launch, so you’ll need excellent organizational and communication skills, and enthusiasm for the work.

Responsibilities

• Help develop the editorial strategy, standards, and workflows for a prolific, high-traffic vertical, from pre-launch through post-launch.

• Work with an editorial calendar across three cadences:

• Daily features: timely content tied to the news cycle and new releases.
• Weekly features like new books roundups and book trends.
• Monthly and seasonal features: previews and best-of lists across genres and categories, back-to-school, year-end lists, and more.

• Commission and solicit contributions from authors, critics, booksellers, librarians, academics, and other experts.

• Write and edit articles, reviews, newsletters, and book roundups.

• Manage assistant editors for the new vertical as it expands.

• Manage freelance writers, assignments, and budget.

• Create and oversee several weekly newsletters.

• Collaborate with editors across Literary Hub’s family of sites, including Lit Hub, CrimeReads, and Book Marks, on content, cross-promotion, and partnerships.

• Stay on top of the publishing industry and the significant books published each year.

You have

• At least 4 years of combined experience in book publishing or book media and in online media, including some experience managing people or freelancers.

• Wide-ranging reading habits and the judgment to evaluate books on their own terms, whether literary fiction, romance, or a guide to personal finance.

• Deep familiarity with online book culture.

• Working knowledge of online publishing tools: CMS, newsletter platforms, and analytics.

• Experience with audience development, digital marketing, social media, and SEO.

• An understanding of the challenges facing publishing, particularly discoverability.

• A favorite bookstore, and a current library card.

Nice to have

• existing relationships with authors, critics, booksellers, or librarians.

Details

• We are based in NYC but fully remote.

• Starting Salary is $72-75k per year with health benefits

• Start date: Dec 1, 2026

To apply: Send a resume to jobs@lithub.com. We will also need three brief pitches for timely book lists. Timely in this case means either pegged to the news cycle, the season, or the current conversation online. Please include a compelling headline, and at least three potential titles (however, capsule reviews are NOT required). For examples, see here, here, here, and here.
