UPDATE: The spell in ‘No way Home’ might have had everyone forget Peter Parker, but the world clearly remembers Spider-Man. ‘Brand New Day’ has, in the final tally, actually overtaken ‘Endgame’ (not adjusted for inflation), earning a truly astonishing $360 million and a spectacular $932 million globally. At this rate, we’d expect it to join the billion-dollar club either just before or at the weekend, especially as the movie will have access to some IMAX screens in the States now ‘The Odyssey’s exclusivity is lifting in areas.
Superhero fatigue is still a thing, but Peter Parker has the cure. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ the fourth MCU film featuring the character as played by Tom Holland, had an amazing launch at the box office with $355 million.
That hands the movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’) the biggest start for 2026 to date and second only to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on the all-time chart. And let’s not forget the figures are still estimates –– there remains a chance that the new Marvel offering could overtake his superhero buddies by the end of the today.

It’s also the most successful opening for a Spidey movie, besting 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and proving the enduring appeal of the character.

The latest Spidey movie, like ‘The Odyssey’ before it, enjoyed a largely competition-free first weekend. Only Gregg Araki’s ‘I Want Your Sex’ arrived, opening in limited release for $570,000 in eighth place.
Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic, meanwhile, fell 43% for $51 million, but only slipped to second place. Worldwide, the movie is now on.
In third was ‘Toy Story 5’ with $6.2 million, while ‘Minions & Monsters’ took fourth on $5.6 million, and ‘Moana’ remained in fifth on $5.3 million.
