Don Broco are set to take Alkaline Trio‘s place as headliner of this week’s 2000trees festival.

The Chicago punk rock trio were set to hit venues in Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, London and Manchester this month, as well as topping the bill at this year’s 2000Trees in Gloucestershire as this Thursday’s (July 9) headliners.

Their tour was meant to kick off in Birmingham last week, but all of the dates have now been pulled. In a statement shared on social media, the band explained that the cause of the cancellation was due to “medical issues” suffered by frontman Matt Skiba.

“We are immensely sorry, but we must cancel our dates in England,” the band’s message explained, “including tonight’s show in Birmingham, due to medical issues Matt has been suffering from that have worsened.”

2000trees organisers later confirmed that Bedford alt-rock outfit Don Broco would return to headline the festival for a second time in their place, having first topped the bill in 2024.

“It’s been a whirlwind of a day but we’re buzzing to have these guys return to the Main Stage next week,” they shared with fans on social media. “This band are total heroes for stepping in at the 11th hour to help us out (putting the DON in DON BROCO), and we know they’re gonna belt it into the stratosphere.

“Two years ago they put on one of the biggest headline sets Upcote has ever seen, and now they’re gonna one up it. This will be one helluva show.

“Now please excuse us while we go and have a lay down and a stiff drink – we found out about Alkaline Trio literally a few hours ago, and we pulled out all the stops to sort out your Thursday headliner as soon as possible, from the middle of a field no less.”

For Don Broco, the newly announced slot comes halfway through their ‘Nightmare Tripping’ UK and European tour in support of their new album by the same name. They kicked off their European leg in June, and are set to hit the UK in September and October –  you can find a full list of remaining dates below and find your tickets here.
