HGTV star Heather Rae El Moussa shared a cryptic post on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (June 9), revealing she and her husband, Tarek El Moussa, feel “violated” and “really sad.”
“Disgusted by some of the cruel heartless people in this world,” Heather wrote in the post. “Tarek and I feel violated and to be honest really sad. Taking a break for a few days and will be back to explain soon … We are safe & the kids are safe.”
The Flipping El Moussas star didn’t provide any further details on what exactly happened to leave her and Tarek feeling so unsettled. Tarek reshared his wife’s post on his own Instagram Stories two hours later, but didn’t add any update.
Earlier in the week, Heather had been sharing videos from her family trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The clips, including videos from the flight, showed Heather and Tarek, along with their three-year-old son Tristan, and Tarek’s children from his first marriage to Christina Haack: daughter Taylor (15) and son Brayden (10).

In the past, Heather spoke out about people overstepping the mark on social media. This included a May 2024 post in which she shared screenshots of nasty comments she’d received from online trolls.
“Social media can be a double-edged sword; while it offers connectivity and community, it also presents a platform for comparison and negativity,” she wrote at the time. “However, your perspective and how you engage with it is so important. I hope you guys don’t have to deal with this, but if you have I’m sending you all the love.”
Heather and Tarek starred on two HGTV shows, The Flipping El Moussas and The Flip Off, the latter of which also stars Haack. The Flipping El Moussas was canceled by HGTV last year, but The Flip Off will return for Season 2 later this year.
More recently, Heather has been filming her return to Selling Sunset, the Netflix reality series that follows a group of real estate agents as they navigate their personal and professional lives in Los Angeles and San Diego. Heather was a main cast member on the show for the first six seasons and returned as a guest in Season 9. She is back as a main cast member for the upcoming 10th season.
