Debuting in 2004, Asilia Africa is a luxury safari outfitter that has now expanded to 18 camps and lodges across Tanzania and Kenya. The company recently announced their newest property, Kokoko Camp opening in July 2024 and the reopening of Rekero, located in Kenya, in June 2024 after extensive renovations to reimagine the legacy camp. These additions come as Asilia Africa as the outfitter aims to offer a seamless circuit of unique wildlife and nature experiences for the adventure and luxury-seeking traveler in East Africa.

Meaning ‘genuine’ or ‘authentic’ in Swahili, Asilia has built a reputation for pairing incredible safari experiences with conservation efforts that empower both people and nature alike in the region. Celebrating two decades as a leading safari operator, last summer it debuted The Retreats at Sayari and Namiri Plains, offering travelers an elevated level of exclusivity and flexibility, creating a personal space for families, privately guided groups or VIPs.

“We’ve seen the appetite for wildlife experiences evolve as the new spectrum of safari goers from adventure travelers looking to return to the traditional roots of safari to those looking for luxury comforts in Africa’s remote landscapes to eco-minded citizens eager for regenerative experiences. Our three newest properties offer experiences for every type of traveler,” said Joanna Bailey, Head of Marketing for Asilia Africa.”

Located in Ruaha National Park on the banks of the Mwagusi River in Tanzania, Kokoko Camp is booked on an exclusive use basis for up to six guests. Designed to bring guests back to the roots of what safari is all about, each of the three guest tents features a removable canopy so guests can sleep beneath the stars. The camp puts the focus entirely on the experience rather than the accommodation as the expedition-style tented camp offers an exceptional safari experience from being out in the wild, exploring, discovering and of course making everlasting memories.

Open from July to October, each stay is led by one of Asilia’s top guides to lead private game drives in your exclusive open-sided vehicle, walking safaris and night drives. Visitors will likely spot antelope, elephants, giraffes, and bat-eared foxes, among other animals like the over 570 bird species in the area. The exclusive intimate experience allows guests to watch as meals are cooked over an open fire by a private chef to be enjoyed outdoors by the fire or picnic style. Geared toward the adventurous traveler, hot air balloon safaris are also available for those early risers looking to get a glimpse of the baobab-studded landscape.

Nightly rates start at $823 per person sharing for Rekero Camp, $1,600 for two people at Kokoko Camp on an exclusive-use basis, and $3,000 per retreat for the Retreats. Guests can also take advantage of the “All Asilia” offer, which includes complimentary inter-camp transfers when they book seven-plus consecutive nights at Asilia properties.
