Death and Other Details will not sail again at Hulu.

The Disney-backed streamer has canceled the Mandy Patinkin-led drama series after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The series, however, is expected to remain on the platform, sources say.

The series launched its 10-episode season in January to lackluster reviews. The series formerly known as Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem has a 55 percent score among critics and 66 percent rating with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review of the drama about a murder mystery set on an ocean liner and co-starring Violett Beane, THR chief TV critic Daniel Fienberg said it was “wildly derivative [and] periodically entertaining.”

Hulu handed out a pilot order for the drama in September 2021, before picking it up to series the following March.

Stumptown duo Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams served as showrunners on the drama. Marc Webb exec produced the pilot and directed via his Black Lamb banner. The series hailed from Disney’s ABC Signature, where Webb is based with an overall deal.

Death and Other Details follows other recent cancellations at Hulu including Chris Estrada’s This Fool, which ran for two seasons; How I Met Your Father (also two) and The Great (three seasons), among others.

Many streamers have been reviewing their slates and scaling back on pricey scripted originals following the end of the Peak TV onslaught as they right-size programming rosters and settle in for an era of contraction.
