The new film, A Madea Homecoming, will be the next film in the long-running series of movies that have featured the fan-favorite character. The project is set to release at some point in 2022, with Perry directing and writing, while Will Areu and Mark Swinton are set to produce. Executive producers for the film include Perry and Michelle Sneed.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as Perry had recently stated that there wouldn’t be any more Madea appearances after the 2019 A Madea Family Funeral. However, it seems as if the character is coming back for at least one more film, and it isn’t too shocking, as the iconic senior character has been a major part of a series of films that have earned over $1 billion total at the box office.

There’s no plot information for the upcoming just yet, but the film will join the streaming giant Netflix as part of Perry’s recent work with the company. Previously, Perry released A Fall From Grace on the platform, and is currently writing, directing, and producing A Jazzman’s Blues for the company as well.
