Universal sets Clooney & Roberts-led Ticket to Paradise for Fall 2022

Just over a month after first announcing development on the romantic comedy, Universal Pictures is fast-tracking the George Clooney and Julia Roberts-led Ticket to Paradise as the studio has slated the film for a September 30, 2022 release.

Directed by Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) on a script from him and Daniel Pipski, the film sees the Oscar winners starring as a divorced couple who must unite and travel to Bali in an effort to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago.

The project is being produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan (Darkest Hour) and Eric Fellner (The Theory of Everything) alongside Clooney and Grant Heslov (Catch-22) via the duo’s Smokehouse Pictures production banner, Roberts through her Red Om Films label with her team Lisa Gillian & Marisa Yeres Gill (Homecoming) as well as Sarah Harvey (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and Deborah Balderstone (Palm Beach). Universal’s Senior Executive Vice President of Production Erik Baiers and Director of Development Lexi Barta will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Ticket to Paradise will mark the fifth time Clooney and Roberts have worked together after starring together in the first two installments of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy, with the latter not appearing in the third installment, and the George Clooney-directed and co-starring Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Jodie Foster-helmed thriller Money Monster.
