The World Fantasy Awards, established in 1975, honors the best fantasy fiction published during the previous calendar year. The Award is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in the genre of fantasy and speculative fiction, and comes with a small statuette of a tree in front of a tawny full moon. Previous winners from each category include C.L. Polk (best novel), Kij Johnson (best novella), Mel Kassel and Emma Törzs (best short fiction), Irene Gallo (best anthology), and Paolo Bacigalupi & Tobias S. Buckell (best collection).
In recent years, the World Fantasy Award has expanded its prize categories to include artists.
Today, the World Fantasy Awards Administration, in partnership with the Board of the World Fantasy Convention, announced the following winners for this this year’s prize: Kacen Callender, Emily Tesh, Maria Dahvana Headley, Nisi Shawl, Brian Evenson, Kathleen Jennings, Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay, Laura E. Goodin, and Esko Suoranta.
