- ‘Resident Evil’ clung to second place.
Warner Bros.’ year box office woes continued as Tom Cruise’s latest film –– a pivot from the action fare that has served him well recently –– failed to find its audience after a lot of negative reviews and dodgy buzz. To put it simply, audiences didn’t dig ‘Digger,’ as the movie stumbled into fifth with $8 million.
Instead, it was up to ‘Verity,’ the psychosexual thriller adapted from a Colleen Hoover novelby director Michael Showalter to top the charts with $33.6 million.
‘Resident Evil,’ meanwhile, stayed in second place with $12 million.
