AMC has found its leading man for the next installment of The Terror.

Dan Stevens will star in the anthology’s third season, which is based on Victor LaValle’s novel The Devil in Silver. AMC ordered the third season in February, almost five years after season two aired. Stevens (Abigail, Legion, Downton Abbey) will also be an executive producer.

The Devil in Silver centers on Pepper (Stevens), a man who finds himself wrongly committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital in Queens. “There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets, and perhaps even the very Devil himself,” the show’s description reads. “As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls — but doing so may prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.”

Chris Cantwell (Halt and Catch Fire, Paper Girls) and LaValle are writing and executive producing. Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets) will direct the first two episodes and also serve as an EP.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of The Terror: Devil in Silver,” Stevens said in a statement. “This series is a dark symphony of psychological horror and gripping drama, set to rock the audience. Victor LaValle, Christopher Cantwell, and this incredible team have crafted a unique and twisted dance of devils and shadows. I look forward to delivering something epic that will echo through the halls like an iron bell.”

The first season of The Terror, released in 2018, followed the crews of two ships on a 19th century Arctic expedition that become stranded in the ice and are stalked by a supernatural menace. Season two, subtitled Infamy, took place at a Japanese internment camp during World War II and featured a vengeful spirit.

Along with Cantwell, LaValle, Kusama and Stevens, the executive producers for The Terror: Devil in Silver are Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker of Scott Free Productions, Alexandra Milchan and Scott Lambert of Emjag Productions, Guymon Casady of Entertainment 360, and Brooke Kennedy. The six-episode season is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2025.
