Those lucky enough to have secured tickets for Glasto ’24 will no doubt be scouring the line-up and agonising over some of the brutal clashes on the bill. But another big talking point as the festival edges closer is – of course – the weather.
The Met Office‘s latest long-range forecast – which covers Friday June 21 to Friday July 5 – states that “signals are weak regarding prevailing weather patterns during this period” in the UK.
“Typical conditions for the UK are most probable, with a mixture of weather types,” it adds.
“All areas can be expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures are most likely to be close to normal or slightly above.”
However, the service notes that it is “harder to offer local detail to as high a level of accuracy” compared to its shorter-range forecasts.
BBC Weather‘s outlook for Monday June 17 to Sunday June 30 currently predicts mostly “summery warm conditions” across the UK.
It reads: “The third week of June could tend to be slightly drier in southern parts of the UK as areas of low pressure look likely to affect mainly the north and north-west of the UK and an extended area of high pressure from the Azores or the Scandinavia settles across southern areas.
“As a result, it will continue to be warmer than average. Low pressure may affect larger parts of the UK at times if a stronger westerly or south-westerly flow prevails. However, warmer air masses are more likely to influence larger parts of the UK.”
The forecast says that there are “signs that high pressure will build up near or over the UK for a more prolonged period” during “the last week of June” when Glastonbury 2024 is held.
“This increases the likelihood that temperatures will rise further,” it continues.
“There is even a chance of very warm conditions in southern England and Wales. It should also turn drier across larger parts of the UK. However, for Scotland at least, there is still a risk of wetter and slightly windier conditions.”
