George A. Romero’s Twilight of the Dead Gets Filming Date

Film

Director George A. Romero‘s upcoming movie Twilight of the Dead has a filming date.

Romero has had a long career of zombie movies, beginning with his 1968 film Night of the Living Dead. This spawned a decades-long franchise, where Romero directed films like Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and most recently, Survival of the Dead in 2009. This was the last movie he directed before his death in 2017 from lung cancer.

Before his death, he wrote a movie treatment called Twilight of the Dead, which would be the conclusion to his epic saga. The George A. Romero estate is teaming with Roundtable to produce the film. The script was finished by Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero. The movie is projected to begin filming in late 2023 in Puerto Rico.

According to Deadline, the seventh installment in the franchise will “delve into the dark nature of humanity from the perspective of the last humans on earth who are caught between factions of the undead.” The producers have called it “thought-provoking sociopolitical commentary wrapped in a genre piece.”

The film is produced by Suzanne Romero, John Baldecchi, Sarah Donnelly, Paolo Zelati, and Stephanie Caleb. The executive producers are Dominic Ianno, Alex Dundas, Jason Resnick, Chris Roe, and Luis Riefkohl.
