Film

Following the successful theatrical release of Avatar: The Way of Water, Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver has found her next big project in the form of the genre-bending action film The Gorge. Deadline brings word that Weaver has officially signed on to star opposite Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy in Skydance and Apple Original Films’ upcoming project. Further details about their characters are being kept under wraps.

The Gorge is described as a “high-action, genre-bending love story.” The film will be directed and produced by Scott Derrickson, who also recently enjoyed box-office success with the horror film The Black Phone. The screenplay is written and produced by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War), with Teller also set to executive produce.

Producers are David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, along with C. Robert Cargill and Sherryl Clark for Crooked Highway. Adam Kolbrenner and Greg Goodman are also set as producers.

Weaver is no stranger to the action genre, as she’s best known for her iconic role as Ripley in the Alien franchise. Apart from James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels, Weaver will next be seen in Amazon Studios’ series adaptation of Holly Ringland’s novel The Lost Flowers of Alice Harts, where she’s portray June Hart opposite Fear the Walking Dead‘s Alycia Debnam-Carey.
