Margaret Qualley & Geraldine Viswanathan to Lead Ethan Coen’s Solo Directorial Feature

According to Deadline, Golden Globe nominee Margaret Qualley and Miracle Workers star Geraldine Viswanathan have officially been tapped for the leading roles in Ethan Coen’s first solo directorial feature with Focus Features. The untitled project is currently slated to start shooting this fall.

Qualley is best known for her role in HBO’s supernatural drama The Leftovers. She starred in last year’s Netflix miniseries Maid, which earned her a second Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries.

Viswanathan’s notable credits include supporting performances in comedy films such as Blockers and Bad Education. She went on to star in her first leading roles in the Sundance drama film Hala and in the romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery.

The untitled project is being co-written by Ethan Cohen and his wife Tricia Cooke, who are both executive producing. Further details about the story are still being kept under wraps, but the outlet’s sources note that it will center around a lesbian road trip. Robert Graf and Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are also set to produce.

The Coen brothers are best known for their acclaimed works such as Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, True Grit, and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Their decades-long collaboration has resulted in a number of accolades, including six Academy Award wins for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
