The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Delayed a Few Precious Months

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was all set for a September 1 release, but it will no longer be making that date. Publisher Nacon announced that the stealth adventure game had been delayed and will now release sometime in the next “few months.”

The game’s official Twitter account relayed the message, giving a lengthy buildup and explanation that boiled down to it simply needing more time. The studio noted that it wanted to meet the “community’s expectations” and would need some more time to do that. There’s no current release window, but that is coming sometime in the future.

The stealth platformer has been a long time coming. It was originally announced in March 2019 before getting its first teaser in August 2020. Gollum has had its share of trailers and behind-the-scenes videos over that lengthy period of time. Nacon had finally settled on a release date back in May before this delay.

This stealth-based action adventure game is focused solely on the infamous Gollum, a creature driven by the desire to once again hold the One Ring in his hands once again. While he was extremely vital to J.R.R. Tolkien’s story, many parts of Gollum’s backstory and history have not been told yet. This game aims to change that, putting players in control of Gollum from his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.
