Film

Nickelodeon and Paramount Animation have finally revealed the first details about the upcoming untitled animated film from Avatar Studios, which will be the first animated movie based on the world of the popular series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The first Avatar film will officially be set years after the third season finale of the original series. It will once again center around Aang and his friends, who will be returning as young adults. Although, we got a few glimpses of them as adults through flashbacks in Avatar: The Legend of Korra, fans haven’t seen the full Team Avatar together in more than a decade since The Last Airbender‘s epic conclusion in 2008.

Avatar Studios is currently developing three animated films, each featuring standalone stories set within the world of the animated series. The first film will be directed by Lauren Montgomery. Avatar co-creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are producing alongside Eric Coleman, and the film will be produced under Avatar Studios.

In the series, the world is divided into four nations — the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads — each represented by a natural element for which the nation is named. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the element of their nation. Only the Avatar is the master of all four elements. The ruthless Fire Nation wants to conquer the world, but the only bender who has enough power to stop them, the Avatar, has disappeared … until now. Now, Katara and Sokka must safeguard Aang on his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation.
