Michael Keaton’s Batman confirmed to return for The Flash!

After a month of emotional whirlwinds for fans from re-castings to potential necessitation of more rewrites, the long-awaited Ezra Miller-fronted DC Extended Universe outing The Flash is finally shooting in London, but even more exciting is that The Wrap has confirmed that Michael Keaton will indeed be returning as Batman for the film.

Keaton’s return has been one that’s gone back and forth since it was first announced he was in talks for it, with the most recent word coming from the actor himself in an interview in which he expressed doubt over joining the project due to concerns about traveling during the global pandemic and hadn’t read the current draft of the script, though his agency has confirmed he will be in the film.

The Flash, which saw its most recent draft scripted by Birds of Prey‘s Christina Hodson, will adapt the iconic “Flashpoint” storyline and see the Scarlet Speedster travel back in time in an effort to prevent his mother’s murder, only to inadvertently splinter the future into a new timeline with Keaton’s 30-years-older Batman protecting it.

Alongside Miller, who has portrayed the hero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the theatrical Justice League, Suicide Squad and The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, and Keaton, the cast for the film will see the return of Kiersey Clemons as Barry Allen’s love interest Iris West and Ben Affleck’s iteration of The Dark Knight, as well as Ron Livingston stepping in for Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen and up-and-comer Sasha Calle as Supergirl.

The Flash has been in development since 2014, with various storylines considered before landing on Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s “Flashpoint” in 2017 and taking on the same title before reverting back to its current title and saw a number of directors come and go, including Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Rick Famuyiwa (The Mandalorian) and John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night).
