For those in search of a quick winter getaway, ski resorts across the country are open and most are fully operating. This comes as great news to jet-setting ski buffs, as lifts in France and Italy have yet to open and Switzerland has banned entry to most countries. An even greater incentive to plan a last-minute ski getaway is the fact that there is very little ski lift traffic at resorts and fortunately, the sport provides the ideal conditions for social distancing and health safety, all while enjoying the great outdoors.

With the current ban on international travel, perhaps you are feeling wistful for a truly authentic, Swiss or French Alpine dining experience? Located in Aspen, French Alpine Bistro-Crêperie du Village will visually transport you to a cozy, European ski chalet. The French and Austrian owners have crafted an authentically alpine atmosphere furnished with antiques from the old world, rustic wood paneling, sheepskin throws, dark wooden beams, antique chandeliers, gilded artwork and candles galore that provide an invitingly warm glow. A trip to Aspen is not complete without savoring the world-famous Cheese Fondue of melted Gruyère, Vacherin, Beaufort and Comté cheese with white wine and a touch of Kirschwasser. Add crispy bread, assorted charcuterie, apples, potatoes or veggies and voilà, you have the perfect winter meal. Add freshly shaved black truffles if you really want to feel spoiled. Another popular Alpine favorite is the Swiss Raclette with boiled potatoes, pickled pearl onions, cornichons, and various meats. The extensive menu also includes a Colorado dry aged Wagyu Burger, Saffron Sea Scallops, Boeuf Bourguignon, Truffle Gnocchi, Colorado Rack of Lamb, Steak a la Plancha and a variety of crêpes both savory and sweet. For starters, or perhaps a light lunch try the warming Soupe à l’Oignon with a Terrine de Foie Gras or Steak Tartare. French Alpine Bistro is open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 AM to 10 PM.
