Zoom tops the 2020 mobile app charts

Tech

In a year that saw leaving the house become criminalised in much of the world, it comes as little surprise to see video conferencing service Zoom become top of the mobile pops.

Both Apple and Google have un veiled their app ‘awards’, but since the criteria for these are opaque and presumably have a commercial element, they’re fairly meaningless. Of much more interest are the simple charts showing which were downloaded the most. Apple has published these for 2020, but Google just has its standard charts, which presumably cover the past few weeks.

We can’t see how to get the global data for Android yet, so we won’t bother listing any country charts. In the US and UK Zoom is still near the top for free apps and Among Us is the top free game. We can’t help noticing that a lot of the top app and game titles are fairly old products, so there would appear to be the opportunity for ambitious new developers to shake things up a bit.
