Former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey’s Memorial Drive—a harrowing memoir of a daughter reckoning with the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of her stepfather—has been optioned by Sony Pictures Television for development as a drama series.
Recently heralded by the Washington Post and the New York Times as one of the best books of 2020, Memorial Drive became an instant bestseller upon its release in July and has received near-unanimous acclaim in the months since.
Trethewey served as the country’s Poet Laureate for two consecutive terms, from 2012-2014, and received the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 2007 for her collection Native Guard.
A search for a writer for the upcoming series is now underway.
