It seems that “Waiting For Adam: Interviews and Obsessions” by entertainment journalist Eileen Shapiro is the fun read of the summer! With glamorous pictures galore and behind the scenes secrets New Haven Publishing knew just what they were doing. The book is a light-hearted journey from star to star and country to country until Shapiro achieved her goal…..A fan girl at best, Shapiro had a desire to obtain an interview with punk rock legend Adam Ant, her own personal holy grail.
After several years of “No” as well as celebrity interrogations of artists including: Boy George, Diana Ross, Emma Stone, Spandau Ballet, Jennifer Hudson, Brooke Shields, Fred Schneider, Rick Springfield, LeeAnn Rimes, Annie Lennox, Slim Jim Phantom, Jennifer Nettles, Lizzo, Melissa Etheridge, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Warwick, Toni Braxton, and a multitude of others, Shapiro finally realized her dream.
The book simply outlines the experiences with the people she met and interviewed along the way up to and beyond her conversation with Adam. Although I as an Adam Ant fan myself hoped there would be a little more directly regarding Adam the pictures in the book made up for the lack of Ant. The interviews contained within “Waiting For Adam” were all different and intriguing. Shapiro’s questions to the celebrities were unique, innovating and compelling. In most cases I learned more about these fascinating artists than I knew before, especially Adam.
Shapiro’s adventures were decadent and quite amazing. It was written with humor and interest and to be honest I had a difficult time putting the book down. It was also inspirational and contained some helpful advice. Shapiro’s life was filled with diversity in ways you can’t even imagine….but since the book is out, there is no reason to imagine…just read it! You will absolutely love it!
