If you ever wanted to prove to customers that you take security seriously, a $450 million investment in one of the worlds’ most recognisable security brands is a good start.

Alongside the purchase of a 6.6% stake in ADT, the duo is also announcing a long-term partnership. Google’s Nest products will be combined with ADT’s security services and technology, while Google’s machine learning capabilities will enhance ADT’s security monitoring.

“Today, we’re announcing a long-term, strategic partnership between Google and ADT, a leading US security and home automation provider,” Rishi Chandra, GM for Nest said in a blog post.

“Together, we aim to create the next generation of the helpful home—based on new security solutions that will better protect and connect people to their homes and families.”

The tie up will create ‘ADT + Google’, a security solution and platform for the consumer IOT world. This is a positive move for both companies, though it appears ADT investors are very happy with the link up. Share price in the security firm jumped 68% in the opening hours of trading.
