John Capodice, whose acting credits include Ace Venture, General Hospital and Ryan’s Hope, has died. He was 83.

Capodice died on Monday, Dec. 30, according to an announcement made on the New Jersey Pizzi Funeral Home website. It did not list a cause of death. The funeral home described the actor as “a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.”

Born in 1941 in Chicago, Capodice fought for the U.S. Army in Korea from 1964 to 1966, the website also said, before he ventured into acting in the late ’70s.

His first role was in the ABC soap opera Ryan’s Hope, where he appeared in six episodes as Lloyd Lord. He had guest roles on numerous other television series, including Spenser: For HireKate & AllieSeinfeldMurder She WroteMurphy BrownKnots LandingHunter, and Law & Order.

Capodice appeared on the series Moonlighting in 1989 and performed as a guest star in an episode of NBC Will & Grace in the role of the repairman who suffers a heart attack. His later television appearances were on hit shows such as The West WingSix Feet Under and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

His film work included Q (1982) and Family Business (1989), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Speed (1994), Independence Day (1996), and Enemy of the State (1998). Capodice was also known for his voice work, providing the voice of Sidney Pen in the 2010 video game Mafia II.

The funeral home said Capodice is survived by his wife, Jane, two children and four grandchildren.
