Billie Eilish has played snippets of two new songs in a recent interview, revealing that she has been “making music” again.

During a conversation with CBS News, the pop star spoke to Anthony Mason about her enormous success and the doubts she has about her ability to create new material.

The chat comes at the end of a year that saw Eilish release her third studio record, ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ – which has been nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys 2025.

She told Mason about experiencing writer’s block, a subject she has been open about previously. “It never is comfortable,” she explained. “You never get used to it. It happens and you’re like, ‘What the hell?! I’m never gonna create again’.”

But Eilish did reveal that she had been “making music” again with her brother and collaborator, Finneas. At one point in the video interview, she took the camera into her backstage greenroom – where she had set up a makeshift recording studio.

“This goes everywhere [with me], and the piano too,” she said, before playing brief snippets of two new tracks. “It’s just so much fun,” she told Mason. “And it’s just like not even serious. We’ve just been making music, and also crocheting a lot.”

One recording was just Eilish’s vocals accompanied by a piano line, while the second featured her signature breathy vocals over a steady drum beat. Check out the clip below, along with the full interview.

In addition to her Grammy nominations for ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’, Eilish is in the running for the following awards at next year’s ceremony: Record Of The Year (‘Birds Of A Feather’), Song Of The Year (‘Birds Of A Feather’), Best Pop Solo Performance (‘Birds Of A Feather’), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (‘Guess’ – Charli XCX feat. Billie Eilish) and Best Dance Pop Recording (L’Amour De Ma Vie [Over Now Extended Edit]’).

Eilish – who is already a nine-time Grammy-winner – told CBS News that the continued nods from the Recording Academy were “the craziest thing in the world”, adding: “I’m blown away and excited and honoured and humbled all at the same time.”

The singer is currently out on the North American leg of her ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ world tour. She’ll visit the UK and Ireland next summer, when Eilish is scheduled to play six nights at The O2 in London. Find any remaining tickets (UK/Ireland) here.

‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ recently came in at Number Nine on NME‘s 50 best albums of 2024 list.

The entry read: “On her third album, the doyenne of bedroom pop is more daring than ever. Billie Eilish’s vocals show new range, she and producer Finneas aren’t afraid to play around with conventional song structures, and her lyrics are pithy and piercing. The lead single’s standout line – ‘I could eat that girl for lunch‘ – is just the beginning.”

‘Birds Of A Feather’ was also placed at Number 12 in NME‘s 50 best songs of 2024 feature. Here, the single was hailed as “a pure love song” that contains “the most gorgeous melodies of [Eilish’s] career”.

In other news, Eilish has called Rihanna “the greatest of all time” and expressed her wish to collaborate with the singer.
