MJ Lenderman has delayed several US tour dates over Hurricane Helene damage

MJ Lenderman has announced the postponement of several US tour dates due to the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Last week, Hurricane Helene hit the Southeastern states of the US, laying waste to cities such as Georgia, Nashville, North Carolina and many more. The hurricane has at the time of reporting resulted in an estimate of 190 deaths, with hundreds others missing.

Lenderman’s upcoming ‘Manning Fireworks’ tour in the US was due to kick off in Georgia today (October 3), before moving to Nashville on October 5. As a result of the damages and tragedies caused by the hurricane – especially in North Carolina, where the musicians’s band and their families are based, the musician has decided to postpone tour dates in the affected cities.

He wrote on Instagram: “Due to the ongoing natural disaster and humanitarian crisis in Western North Carolina as a result of Hurricane Helene, where most of MJ Lenderman’s band and their families are based, we have no choice but to postpone the first few dates of the upcoming Manning Fireworks tour.”

Lenderman then confirmed that the tour will instead kick off on October 6 in Knoxville, with resheduled dates for Atlanta and Nashville being announced in the coming days or weeks.

Lenderman also shared several slides of “trusted mutual aid sources” for fans and followers to donate to in an effort to help the families affected by the natural disaster. These sources include the Beloved Asheville, Asheville Survival and Pansy Collective companies.

Lenderman’s US run of tour dates will continue through early November before he makes his way to the UK and Europe. In January 2025, Lenderman will then continue his trek across North America right through to April.

Tickets to the majority of his tour dates are sold out, but you can get any remaining US tickets here, and UK/Europe tickets here.

Elsewhere, Hurricane Helene has previously impacted various shows and festivals which were set to take place in the southeast of the US. Alabama’s South Star Festival was cancelled while some sets of Kentucky’s Louder than Life Festival were cut to due the inclement weather. Bands such as Quarters of Change, Mannequin Pussy and the likes of Billy Joel and Sting all had to cancel or postpone their gigs in states such as North Carolina and Florida due to the intense weatherstorm.

In a four-star review of MJ Lenderman’s ‘Manning Fireworks’, Mia Hughes wrote for NME: “‘Manning Fireworks’ is an album that aches for its cast of freaks and losers, and its success in walking that line is a sign of MJ Lenderman’s richly developing voice.”
