Fans have been reacting to news that Selena Gomez has earned her first ever Emmy nomination for her role in the last season of Only Murders In The Building.
Gomez had previously been nominated at the awards for her work as an executive producer on the series, but not in the acting category. The actress was nominated alongside Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson, The Bear‘s Ayo Edebiri, Loot‘s Maya Rudolph, Hacks‘ Jean Smart and Palm Royale‘s Kristen Wiig.
FX’s Shōgun led the way with the most nominations at this year’s Emmys, which were unveiled yesterday (July 18).
This was followed by The Bear, with 23 nominations, then Only Murders In The Building (21), True Detective: Night Country (19) and The Crown (18) round out the top five nominees, behind Shōgun’s impressive 25.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards honour the best in American television, covering the time from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024. The ceremony will be held on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on ABC in the US. No host has yet been announced for the show.
Gomez herself reacted to the news of her nomination on social media, writing on her Instagram Stories: “I’m honoured and insanely grateful for this. Thank you for giving me Mabel,” referring to her character in the show.
Along with Martin Short and Steve Martin in the show – who also received nominations – the trio make podcasts in which they attempt to solve murders.
Fans have been reacting to the news online, with some saying it was “long overdue” and others saying it was “well deserved”. You can check out some more of the reactions here:

Selena Gomez winning Cannes Best Actress and getting her first Emmy acting nomination for Only Murders in the Building in a span of three months is honestly a whole kind of flex #Emmys pic.twitter.com/mFeEyeSvkp

Between winning Best Actress at Cannes & now getting her 1st Emmy nomination for acting (and in a lead category no less), Selena Gomez is having quite the career momentum this year.
As in I would not be surprised if an Oscar nomination followed (in supporting for Emilia Perez). https://t.co/dtmEKMDJGq pic.twitter.com/rgy2jY0Gqi

Finally! Selena Gomez earns her first acting #Emmy nomination — an honor way overdue. She is the heart and soul of “Only Murders in the Building.” This shoulda happened 3 seasons ago! 👏
Pleasantly surprised with this morning’s nominations. Lots of star power & diversity.

The nominees were announced from Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre by Tony Hale (Veep) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary).
The 2023 Emmys took place in January this year, after a postponement due to the Hollywood strikes. The Bear and Succession walked away as the biggest winners of the night, with The Bear clinching Outstanding Comedy Series, and Succession taking home the award for Outstanding Drama Series. The Bear won a total of six awards, while Succession won seven.
Several of the other shows named by NME as the best TV of 2024 so far are also represented in the nominees, including Baby Reindeer, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Fallout.
In other Emmy news, Lady Gaga fans were unhappy the musician had been “snubbed” by the awards.
Fans were hoping that her film, Gaga Chromatica Ball would receive a nomination but were left disappointed when it received none.
Directed and produced by Gaga herself, Gaga Chromatica Ball is a TV special which covers her performance at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California in September 2022. The show was part of her latest concert tour in support of her sixth studio album, ‘Chromatica‘.
