Get to know the fashion house’s first luminous gourmand scent.

Every passion starts with a spark. From a blossoming romance to a newly discovered hobby, it’s impossible to predict what we’ll become devoted to throughout our lives. Still, that initial spark of excitement is always there to lead the way.

For Dolce & Gabbana’s latest female fragrance launch, Devotion Eau de Parfum (EDP), that thrilling spark exists in the scent’s contrasts. As the fashion house’s first luminous gourmand perfume, Devotion is formulated with top notes of alluring candied citrus, a heart note of orange blossom, and a base note of irresistible Madagascar vanilla. The result is a unique fragrance that opens with a fresh and bright burst of citrus, before settling into its cozy, sensual base notes.

“The essence of Devotion Eau de Parfum lies in a concise yet powerful blend of exceptionally high-quality ingredients that both complement and contrast each other harmoniously,” says master perfumer Olivier Cresp, the nose behind the innovative scent. The candied citrus note “adds a playful and bright dimension to the fragrance, while the fragrance’s dry down is defined by a gourmand vanilla. Contrasts are pivotal to a fragrance, as they create the ‘wow’ factor, defining its character.”

The face of the campaign for Dolce & Gabbana’s Devotion EDP, Katy Perry, shares her own story of devotion, saying, “I initially started singing when I was nine years old, and then I started playing guitar at 13, and that’s when my true voice came out. When I was able to speak in my own words, through my own feelings, and put my emotions out there and my own perspective, I felt like I had my own little grasp on the world. And that’s when I started devoting myself to my craft.”

Devotion is the first fragrance that has the ambition to explore the fashion codes of the iconic Italian fashion house and features Dolce & Gabbana’s DNA woven throughout the olfactory experience. Every page of the Devotion story is classically Dolce & Gabbana, from its luxurious glass bottle adorned with the iconic, three-dimensional gold Sacred Heart emblem, to its nods to the fashion house’s Italian heritage via the campaign, which was shot in Capri.

And of course, the scent story itself is an homage to Italy, too. “This fragrance is a celebration of the irresistible Italian dessert, panettone, and its delectable aromas”, explains Cresp. “Panettone is a nostalgic dessert that celebrates moments of joy and indulgence. This sentiment became the primary inspiration for Devotion—capturing joy in a fragrance to spread its essence worldwide.”

The magic of Devotion lies in its ability to be instantly timeless and classic. It’s no secret that gourmand scents—that is, fragrances made up of notes like chocolate, candy, vanilla, honey or baked goods—aren’t for everyone. The sweet aroma can be polarizing, but Cresp’s inclusion of orange blossom and citrus provides a unique freshness, making it sparkle like never before. “Traditional gourmand scents often lean heavily on sticky, sweet, or overly fruity elements that can sometimes be overwhelming,” says Cresp. “The fresh, luminous notes in Devotion EDP serve as a bridge for individuals who might not typically lean towards gourmand fragrances.”

As you wear Devotion throughout the day, it reveals itself to you in layers, erupting onto the skin in a fresh, fizzy burst, before settling into a warm, round, and soft vanilla base. It is an unexpected and innovative blend of sugary and tart, that first blissful bite of a soft slice of panettone during the holidays—“sweet, but not too sweet.”

Devotion Eau de Parfum is available in 30, 50, and 100ml sizes at Sephora.ca and across all major Canadian retailers. The glass bottle is refillable, and the packaging is made of 100 per cent recyclable natural paper.
