Tyrese Gibson Sues Home Depot for ‘Racial Profiling,’ Releases Video

Fast and Furious franchise star Tyrese Gibson is suing Home Depot after he and two associates were allegedly racially profiled at a store earlier this year.

Gibson shares a brief video of the incident

The lawsuit (via People) stems from an incident that took place on February 11, 2023, at a Home Depot store near Los Angeles. According to Gibson, he — along with associates Eric Mora and Manual Hernandez — were racially profiled while attempting to check out.

The lawsuit alleges that a cashier at the Home Depot purposely interfered with and refused to process the transaction based on groundless suspicion of Gibson, Mora, and Hernandez. Gibson alleges this discrimination was rooted in racial discrimination and — in the case of Mora and Hernandez — xenophobia.

Taking to social media, Gibson also shared a video of the incident on his Instagram, showcasing himself talking to a handful of Home Depot employees about the alleged incident. In the clip, Gibson explains that he and his associates — who he calls “craftsmen” in the video’s caption — have been shopping at Home Depot for years. He also asks why the policy was randomly enforced on him after he had been visiting the store for more than 10 years.

According to the suit, Mora and Hernandez entered to shop for something with Gibson’s credit card. Gibson waited in the car after noticing fans had spotted him. Gibson claims that he told the cashier he was allowing the two men to use his card. However, the cashier still turned the men down — even after Gibson made his way back inside the store.

“The cashier gave no reasonable explanation other than repeating ‘store policy’ and demanded to see a form of identification,” the lawsuit reads. “The manager refused to speak with Gibson in person. It was only after significant heated discussion with the cashier that Gibson was finally able to complete the transaction.”
