NieR: Automata Anime Hiatus Ends Next Month, Release Date Set

The last four episodes of the NieR: Automata animeNieR:Automata Ver 1.1a — have gotten a release date, ending the series’ extended hiatus.

When will the last four episodes of the NieR: Automata anime debut?

The anime’s official website (via Anime News Network) has revealed that the final four episodes of the series will air in Japan on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Tochigi TV on Sunday, July 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. JST, then later in the evening on Gunma TV.

The NieR: Automata anime first debuted back in January but was hit with delays as a result of COVID-19. The most recent episode was released in March, making for a substantial gap between the release of the eighth and ninth episodes.

The game NieR: Automata was first released in 2017 and was created by PlatinumGames. It follows the story of combat android 2B as she navigates a desolate world on behalf of YoRHa. When it launched, the game earned massive praise amongst fans and critics alike, with many complimenting it on its ability to deliver various gameplay formats while also incorporating an emotional story.

“NieR: Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines,” reads its synopsis. “Humanity has been driven from the Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to take back the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on … A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth of the world.”
