In the latest legal reporting on Kanye West’s “Donda Academy,” a $15,000-a-year private school, I was reminded of Homer Simpson’s failed religion. Most charter schools/religions fail, though the details of West’s academy seem more damning than the usual bespoke curriculum gone wild.
Cecilia Hailey, a former employee and experienced school administrator, is suing West, the Chatsworth, Calif., school and its directors for “racial discrimination and wrongful termination,” reports Page Six. Hailey has claimed that West, who has a troubled history of racially and culturally inflammatory comments, banned Black history books, including Mark Bixler’s The Lost Boys of Sudan, from the school. West has previously identified as “white” and also disclosed a mental health diagnosis.
Hailey also claimed that the food options at the school were very limited, with no breakfast and only sushi for lunch:
“There was no breakfast. You had young kids eating raw sushi and cucumber rolls every day,” Hailey said. “A lot of the kids didn’t like it and that’s all they had.”
