On Game of Thrones, Kit Harington played the young Jon Snow, a reluctant leader of soldiers. But for his next turn on HBO, it looks like he might play an overconfident leader of nerds: The British actor is joining the cast of Industry as the CEO of “an exciting green tech energy company that’s about to go public.”
Industry, which premiered on HBO Max in November 2020, follows mid-20s business school graduates-turned junior employees in the high stakes, drug- and alcohol-fueled world of investment banking at the London office of the fictional Pierpoint & Co. It has made stars out of Myha’la Herrold, who gives a magnetic performance as the manic, intensely dedicated banking wunderkind Harper, and Marisa Abela, who plays Harper’s frenemy Yasmin (Abela will soon play Amy Winehouse in a biopic). With veterans like Ken Leung and Jay Duplass contributing career-best work, the series has developed a cult following across the last two seasons, which almost certainly contributed to an eleventh-hour renewal for season three.
In a GQ Hype profile of the Industry cast published during season two, Herrold described the generational clashes depicted on the series, which GQ writer Gabriella Paiella called as the first great Gen-Z workplace drama, as “a collision of the old world and the new world.” Abela doubled down, saying “It’s the worst of both worlds.” “It shines a light on a pretty dark part of the human psyche,” co-creator Mickey Down, who formerly worked in the banking world, told British GQ. Sure enough, season two ended with Leung’s character firing Herrold’s Harper, for fear that the job was compromising her morals (and the security of the company.)
With Succession drawing to a close this spring, there’s soon to be a snappy business drama vacuum on the Home Box Office . Adding the return of a Stark child to Industry’s high-octane corporate intrigue and dash of Gen-Z melodrama could finally mean a breakout season for the critically adored show. Harington will play Henry Muck, who runs a company called Lumi, and he will come into play as Pierpoint dives into “ethical investing,” per Deadline.
Industry will begin shooting its eight-episode third season in April. Meanwhile, we await news on the long-rumored Game of Thrones spinoff series that would focus on Harrington’s character, Jon Snow.
