Mr. C Beverly Hills Is the Old-World European Escape You Need in Los Angeles

Culture

Mr. C Beverly Hills

The Cipriani namesake might forever be synonymous with Harry’s Bar in Venice – where Ernest Hemingway went to write, and European royalty, movie stars, and socialites came to see and be seen – but today, it’s also associated with an old-world yet decidedly modern hotel and hospitality brand. Fourth-generation scions of the famous family, brothers Maggio and Ignazio Cipriani launched their Mr. C Hotel concept in 2011, deciding no city was more fitting than Los Angeles for their flagship property Mr. C Beverly Hills, to call home. A ritzy and sophisticated affair, it’s been a firm favorite among discerning Angelenos and the international jet-set ever since.

Location, Location, Location

Minutes from Rodeo Drive, Mr. C Beverly Hills borders West L.A. and enjoys 360-degree views of the city, but its front-side façade affords a gorgeous panorama from Century City across Beverly Hills to the Hollywood Sign in the east. Ideally located to reach Santa Monica’s beaches and famous museums and sightseeing hotspots like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in 20 minutes, with its elegant interiors and old-world European charm, guests might be reluctant to leave the property after checking in.

“Mr. C represents a modern vision of old-world simplicity and stylish European glamour.” –  Ignazio Cipriani

With Cipriani being a world-class hospitality brand, expect a grand entrance upon arrival and impeccable levels of service. Pulling into the driveway off Beverwil Drive, you’ll catch a first glimpse of the 12-story hotel, a modernist high-rise built in 1965 that lends itself wonderfully to Mr. C’s retro-glam ambiance. The lobby, decorated like a grand home, wows with Venetian chandeliers, dark hardwoods, handsome Chesterfield sofas and a baby grand piano. Management wearing well-tailored suits attend to check in and, depending on the time, can arrange for that welcome Bellini to be sent directly up to your suite or brought out to the palm-shaded front patio.

Signature & Mr. C Suites

Inside a Mr. C Suite

A total of 138 bright and spacious rooms feature across the property each with tasteful European touches, including black-and-white photographs of Italian celebrities from the ’50s and ’60s, coffee table books and Eames lounge chairs. The standout being their private balconies, many of which provide views over Hollywood and beyond. Bathrooms are beautifully finished with marble sinks and bespoke Mr. C amenities – in Signature Suites standalone tubs are raised affairs with port windows located close by that look into the bedroom. Mr. C Suites are finished in white, including tufted leather sofas and headboards while Signature Suites boast a dramatic red color scheme – both channel a nautical aesthetic thanks to wooden flooring and balcony railings more akin to a vintage sailboat.

Mr. C Yacht Club

Leaning less hotel pool and slightly more yacht club, Mr. C’s pool deck is flanked by private cabanas of varying sizes, sunbeds and booth seating, making it a popular space to post up for the day or an afternoon. It’s trendy, but the vibe is quiet and low-key, especially during the week. Snacks and light bites spanning a charcuterie board, salads, and pizzas can be ordered from the poolside menu, along with a selection of cocktails, wine, Champagne, and fresh-squeezed juices. Set aside some time to get pampered with a one-hour mini spa service (think massages and facials) in your cabana or back up in the room if you prefer more privacy. There’s a small fitness center, too, should you feel like working out.

The Restaurant at Mr. C

With its dark polished wood interior and starched white tablecloths, stepping inside the hotel’s dedicated signature eatery is like being whisked back to a bygone era, in part due to the dining room being a close replica of the original 1930s-era Harry’s Bar in Venice. Today, Executive Chef Max Farina presides over the menu, which spans Italian-American favorites, classic Venetian dishes, plus seasonal specials, including to-die-for tortellini with braised sage and a grilled swordfish with chimichurri sauce. Clad in white jackets and black bow ties, servers are attentive with impeccable timing.

But first, enjoy a drink at the mahogany bar before being seated at your table – if possible, request one of the velvet banquettes for discreet celebrity spotting. Perhaps some olives and another Bellini (which made its debut in 1948 at Harry’s Bar in Venice, naturally) or The Montgomery – a dry martini made with 15 parts gin to vermouth named after a famous English general. If there’s room, round out the meal with espressos and a shared tiramisu. The in-room dining menu spans breakfast and lunch through dinner, too, should you opt to keep your Mr. C robe and slippers on and dine in-suite to enjoy those twinkling Hollywood views instead.

There’s also a grab-and-go barista bar with light breakfast bites for guests who prefer not to order in-room dining or sit down in The Restaurant.

Jazz Nights & Other Highlights

Enveloped in a world of timeless glamour, Mr. C Beverly Hills is a real piece of Italy in the heart of Los Angeles. With its live piano music on Friday and Saturday nights, The Lobby Bar is the heart and soul of the place on weekends, while The Restaurant at Mr. C regularly hosts collaboration dinners with winemakers like DAOU Vineyards. And, every Sunday through the end of September, DJs will play poolside from noon until 5 p.m. as part of the Summer Sundays Pool Party series.

Additional thoughtful highlights that make the guest experience such a standout one at Mr. C are many and varied, although the pet-friendly accommodations are worth a mention. They include a welcome amenity with dog beds and bowls available upon request and dedicated pet in-room dining coming soon. It’s also possible to borrow brand new Mr. C cruiser bikes complete with bells and baskets made in collaboration with Priority Bikes to explore the local sights or pop up the road to Rodeo Drive for a spot of shopping. Back home, fans can purchase a selection of Cipriani epicurean products online, from olive oil and panettone to sumptuous gift boxes.
