Canadian lipstick junkies, rejoice: Beauty gurus on TikTok have been obsessed with YSL Beauty’s latest tech-smart custom lipstick device, Rouge Sur Mesure, since this winter, and now the patented technology is officially available in Canada. If you haven’t seen it on social media yet, the Bluetooth-enabled, handheld device carries a set of three cartridges, which are available in four colour families — pink, orange, red and nude — and when activated, colour (in the brand’s signature velvet cream matte finish) flows from each one into the top portion of the device to create your desired lip shade — up to a whopping 4,000 to be exact.

Calibrated through the Rouge Sur Mesure phone app, users can choose from three different methods to pick a lipstick on the app. There’s the “shade palette” setting, which opens your phone’s front-facing camera to display a colour wheel that can be virtually tried, and the “shade match” setting that allows you to point to a random colour using your back camera to create an exact or similar lipstick. Alternatively, the third setting, “shade stylist,” allows you to upload a photo of your outfit and pick a matching lip shade. Bonus: The top portion of the device is a compact of sorts that can be removed and stashed away in your makeup bag or purse for on-the-go touch ups!
