Following the recent addition of Gunpowder Milkshake star Michelle Yeoh, Deadline brings word that rising British actress Sophia Brown (Giri/Haji, Marcella) has officially been cast for one of the leading roles in Netflix’s forthcoming prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin. Brown will be replacing Jodie Turner-Smith for the role of Éile after the Queen & Slim star exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Production is scheduled to begin in August and will take place in the UK.

Éile is described as an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who leaves her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the Continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.

Set in an elven world 1,200 years before events of the main series, The Witcher: Blood Origin tells the story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

The six-part limited series will be led by Vikings alum Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, a character who comes from a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King, and Michelle Yeoh (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scían, the last member of the nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart.
