Telia reckons it’s changing the IoT game

Swedish operator group Telia has made its big IoT move in the form of a bundle of technologies designed to take the hassle out of global implementation.

The new portfolio is called Telia Global IoT Connectivity and the big claim on its behalf is that it will save companies on average 28 percent of the cost of global IoT connectivity. It’s comprised of Telia eSIM powered by eUICC, a global ecosystem of pre-integrated operators, a unique programmable network and a cloud platform to manage it all.

“This is a true game changer for IoT connectivity,” said Björn Hansen, Head of IoT at Telia. “Customers that need to deploy their solutions globally have to deal with multiple operators and a number of regulatory and taxation issues to stay compliant.

“When needed, our solution goes beyond roaming and provides local subscriptions in highly regulated markets. Customers can now instantly control what their devices can or cannot access with a network that dynamically adapts to connectivity needs.”

The roaming side of things is important. The only way to make any money out of IoT is to make scaling as simple as possible and, for that, you need to be able to ignore borders. Any game-changing IoT solutions will need to be able to resolve the matter of roaming so completely that anyone buying services based on it don’t even need to think about it.

“Enabled by our innovative solution architecture that brings connectivity and data to the cloud, customers will now be able to control and manage the global network of partners and orchestrate data and SMS flows in near real time,” said Hansen. “It sets the foundation for scaling in hyper speed.”
