Today, the New York Public Library announced the launch of its latest service, Shelf Help, a tool that provides its patrons with personalized book bundles curated by skilled librarians. Shelf Help is the Library’s latest initiative to support New York City during the pandemic.
“There is a wonderful moment of serendipity when a reader finds a new book they love and it is this experience the Library is seeking to recreate with the launch of Shelf Help,” said Lynn Lobash, Associate Director of Readers Services at The New York Public Library. “Although we’ve had to alter our services to support patrons during the pandemic, our librarians remain eager to share their knowledge and engage with readers in new and dynamic ways, which includes continuing to provide their expert guidance and love of books with New Yorkers of all ages.”
For 125 years, The New York Public Library has been a free provider of education and information for the people of New York and beyond. Its 92 locations across the Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan offer free materials, computer access, classes, exhibitions, programming and more to everyone from toddlers to scholars. To offer such wide array of free programming, The New York Public Library relies on both public and private funding. You can support the Library by heading here.
To access this service, patrons can also call Ask NYPL at 917-ASK-NYPL or drop off a request form at one of the system’s open branches. According to the library’s press release, as per safety protocols, the forms need to be quarantined for 96 hours before staff can fill requests. For more information, please head here.
