Thank you, universe: We’re getting a queer Canadian grunge-era comedy series about Tegan and Sara Quin directed by Clea DuVall, and there’s literally nothing I can do to make that sentence better.
The show will be based on High School, the sisters’ memoir of their adolescence in Calgary, published last year by MCD and filled with a mix of sweet, honest, and cringe-worthy anecdotes and reflections about their relationship. The book was accompanied by Hey, I’m Just Like You, an album for which they re-recorded some of the earliest songs they wrote together.
DuVall wrote the pilot, which is under development from IMDb TV and Amazon Studios, and will also direct it. In the meantime, I have questions that can’t wait: Will we ever get the adorable music video of “Tegan Didn’t Go to School Today” that we deserve? Will the series attempt to create an even gayer elevator ride than this one? Will this barista finally get her day in the sun?
Lastly, and most importantly, who on earth can match Tegan and Sara’s comedic talents enough to actually play them? Can they just play themselves, PEN15-style? I mean, come on:
This is Sara’s audition tape for @cleaduvall to cast her to play herself in the TV show based on our memoir High School. pic.twitter.com/JCK9t7kZbW
