Disney+’s Ms. Marvel Lands Bad Boys for Life Filmmakers & More!

As the streaming platform’s She-Hulk series has found its star and pilot director, Disney+’s Ms. Marvel has also taken a big leap forward with the signing of Bad Boys for Life‘s Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon to direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Ms. Marvel series was first confirmed at last year’s D23 event, with British writer Bisha K. Ali (Four Weddings and a Funeral) attached to write and showrun the series, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also confirmed that she along with Moon Knight and She-Hulk will all eventually make their way to the big screen.

El Arbi and Fallah broke out with American audiences with their work on the long-awaited third installment in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starring franchise, helping launch it to be the highest-grossing and best-reviewed film in the franchise. The duo are currently attached to revive another beloved action-comedy franchise with Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop 4, which will see the return of series star Eddie Murphy in his iconic role of Axel Foley. Obaid-Chinoy is an Oscar-winning documentarian best known for her work with A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness and Saving Face, while Menon is well-known for her work on the small screen with shows including You, For All Mankind and The Punisher.

Though the Ms. Marvel moniker has been around for decades, originally the superhero name for Carol Danvers, the Khan character took on the name. A Pakistani-American, Khan joined the Marvel comics universe back in 2014 as a result of the Inhumans’ Terrigen Mists being released, triggering her shapeshifing powers. Not only is she capable of stretching her limbs to great lengths and widths, but she can also grow or shrink to incredible sizes. Khan is also inspired by Carol Danvers, who at that point had been “promoted” to the role of Captain Marvel, and decides to take on her old moniker of Ms. Marvel to fight crime and do good.

Earlier this week brought word that the She-Hulk series had landed Marry Me director Kat Coiro to executive produce the series and direct a handful of episodes, including the pilot, and had signed Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, Perry Mason) for the titular role.
