What’s been your go-to quarantine snack?
I’m not gonna lie: I’ve been eating healthier. I haven’t really been eating snacks and stuff. I don’t even remember the last time I had a bag of chips. Honestly, I’ve been cooking more.

Are you a good cook?
I’m getting better. Last night I made some salmon, some mash potatoes and some corn. And then I do protein shakes in the morning after I box. I’ve been training everyday. [Boxing training] has been something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid.

What have you been listening to?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Snoh Alegra and Charlie Wilson and Stevie Wonder.

Wait a minute? You’re cooking salmon, getting up early to workout, listening to Stevie Wonder… Grown man shit!
(Laughs) Yeah. It’s different. I’m just in my environment. Certain music is created for going crazy—you’re in Miami, top down 2am… That’s when you listen to Uzi or DaBaby. But right now I’m in the Hills tucked up. I ain’t driving fast right now. There’s no money to really get. So we’re laid back.

The youth really look up to you. And they’ve never had more time to work on their dream projects. What advice do you have for them?
Have fun with it and talk your shit. That’s what I feel like kids should be doing. Having fun and trying shit. Being creative and thinking outside of the box, no pun intended. Because that’s what it’s about. Even after putting out my project that’s what I’m doing. Back in the day—back before civilization wasn’t even civil—people would pull out a drum and just have fun. They might say one word for three minutes but it was fun. Music is supposed to be that way. People have taken the fun out of it…

Are you working on your next album right now?
Could I drop a new album right now? Yes. Will I? No.

Is that because it’s not ready?
It’s really not about it being ready or not ready. It’s more about the timing. I really just drop when I feel like it. The next album is going to be a full blown masterpiece. A real idea. A real body of work.
