Immigration issues, stock market instability, and economic uncertainty — it’s enough to make travelers weary of experiencing a trip disruption and losing their money.

That’s what Angus McDonald, CEO of travel insurer Cover Genius, suspects is behind a 20% spike in sales from February to March. 

“Whenever we see big macro effects, then we see consumers generally feel like they need to protect from the risk that they’re being exposed to,” said Angus McDonald, CEO and co-founder of Cover Genius, in an interview with Skift.

Cover Genius provides various types of travel insurance and trip protection products, including Cancel for Any Reason, that travel sellers can offer to consumers at checkout. The company has more than 50 travel partners, including Hopper, Booking.com, Kayak, Priceline, Hom
