According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will star in the project with Scorcese directing, with Apple Original Films landing the rights to the book’s film story. The film will mark the second time the pair of Scorcese and DiCaprio are set to work with Apple, as the company is also one of the producers on the highly anticipated upcoming Scorcese film Killers of the Flower Moon.

The novel, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder, is set to be released in April 2023. It is set in the 1740s and tells the story of a group of 30 emaciated pirates who arrive on the coast of Brazil, only to be praised as heroes and survivors after recounting their stories to the local members of the community.

However, six months later, a small group of three men land on the coast of Chile and claim that the original 30 pirates are mutineers. This sets in motion a tale of intrigue and mystery that the British Admiralty tries to uncover.
